All Information About Akhaura Upazila

Akhaura  is an Upazila of Brahmanbaria District in the Division of ChittagongBangladesh.Akhaura Upazila with an area of 99.28 km2, is bounded by Brahmanbaria sadar upazila on the north, kasba upazila on the south, Tripura State of India on the east and Brahmanbaria sadar upazila on the west. Main river is Titas. It is a historical city for both WWII and Liberation War of Bangladesh. This place also hub of transportation in Bangladesh. Akhaura is a Municipality City with an area of 2.35 km2 and population 32435; male 50.43%, female 49.57%. It has 9 wards and 23 mahallas. Literacy rate among the town people is 78.59%.
Administration Akhaura thana, now an upazila, was established in 1976. The upazila consists of five union parishads, 107 mouzas and 225 villages.


History of Akhaura Upazila

Historical events During the British period Akhaura Town was a famous jute-trading centre. Bailed jute used to be exported to the industrial city Dandy of England from here. During the war of liberation Bir Srestha mohammad mostafa kamal was killed in an encounter with the Pak army at village Daruin of the Akhaura Sector.

Marks of War of Liberation Mass killing site 2, western bank of the Gangasagar Dighi and Ajampur; mass grave 1 at Sonarabadia; the tomb of Shaheed (myrtar) Sepahi Mostafa Kamal (Bir Sreshtho) is located at Akhaura.

Akhaura is located at 23.8833°N 91.2166°E . It has 18783 units of house hold and it has some total area as it is a part of wonderland. Titas River run through this city. Because of suitable land for agriculture, many people are farmer with in the city.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Akhaura has a population of 112982. Males constitute 51.45% of the population, and females 48.55%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 53633. Akhaura has an average literacy rate of 78.45% (7+ years), and the national average of 78.59% literate. An internationally reputed person from Village Taragon of Akhaura Paurashova under Akhaura Upazila is Founder Editor of the Weekly Deshdarpan, Journalist, Poet and Rhyme Writer, Jurist and Educationist Barrister Dr Mohammed Yeasin Khan LLB Honours, LLM, PhD, PGD, Barrister-at-Law (Lincoln's Inn, England), an Adjunct Professor of Law of a London based International University and an Advocate-on-Record of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, who in his PhD thesis ‘Protection and Promotion of Human Rights for Peace and Development’ recommended a new doctrine of world peace: ‘The Man for Man Theory of World Peace'.

Railways and Transportation of Akhaura Upazila

Akhaura railway junction has emerged as national railway junction of Bangladesh. It is an important Railway Junction of Bangladesh. ChittagongSylhetMymensingh and Dhaka are connected through this Junction. A railway link between AgartalaIndia and Akhaura has been approved by the Government of Bangladesh and India in September 2011. The international railway system is in under construction that will connect Bangladesh with Silchar–Sabroom section of Indian railwaysIndia-Bangladesh Highway will go through this city as well. The Asian Highway was proposed to connect this city.
